The Department was established in 1994. Enrolment of students started in 1994/1995; and the first graduation was in 1998. The Department has 11 Ph.D. staff members specializing in fruit tree production, vegetables production, seed technology, soil science, forestry, range management, irrigation and drainage, field crops, machinery, agricultural economics and plant breeding. There are several teaching and research laboratories, which include soil science, plant production, and a general purpose research lab.
